West Cork Sailing
West Cork Sailing
West Cork has 1,094 kilometres of coastline. The bays and inlets provide natural harbours,
bays and beaches for sailors to dock or anchor. Maureen O’Hara and her husband, Charles
Blair, chose to live in Glengarriff, West Cork because of its natural bay where Charles could land his seaplane. They are not the only celebrities to choose West Cork as their European home for its access to the coast and one of the favourite pastime in West Cork, Sailing.
Sailing is the natural pastime for Cork natives as they are always close to the sea, and often choose to also sail, canoe and row on the numerous lakes and rivers. The larger towns of Youghal, Cobh, Kinsale, Schull, Bantry, Baltimore and Castletownbere all have natural harbours. Many have their own sailing clubs and schools, and host regattas and summer camps.
We have included a diary of sailing events in Cork during 2016.

collect 123 passengers and mail and then continued on its fateful journey. Those 123
passengers were only a few of the 2.3million that have emigrated from the town over the centuries.
