Johnny Timmy Johnny's Museum

The second part of our 'Welcome To Lee Valley' series, brings us to our local museum 'Johnny Timmy Johnny's'...

The museum is located in Inchigeela village, Cork, Ireland and revives memories of times past for people visiting the area.

History

This interesting looking semi-circular, green galvanized structure was once upon a time an all purpose grocery store and sold everything from paraffin oil to corsets and everything in between.  The original owners Timmy and Dora were well known in the area, Timmy also ran 'The Lake Hotel' in Inchigeela, as well as the dance hall. He started out as a repair man for Raleigh Bicycles for the area.  He ensured that 'Johnny Timmy Johnny's' was the social hub of the village, if you needed the local news, this was the place to get it. There was also many a card game played here at night.
Built in 1917, over the stream on concrete piers and slabs which originated from the Railways in Queenstown (now Cobh) where Timmy had previously worked. This building is interestingly, located on the boundary between two townlands-half being in Inchigeela Townland and half in Carrigleigh. Now transformed into a museum, this curio takes you on a trip down memory lane containing many artifacts from a forgotten time.

Museum Artifacts

The 'Johnny Timmy Johnny's' Museum (also known as 'The Store of Memories' museum) has now been passed on to the 3rd generation of the family and is run by Timmy Johnny's Granddaughter Dorothy.  It contains a wealth of historical items from Scythes used for cutting corn in the local fields, to the History of the family which goes back centuries.  We also see an antique Switchboard.  Many Pictures line the walls including some of President Kennedy who was much loved in Ireland, previous Popes, Dorothy's Grandfather Timmy Johnny himself.

We also see an extremely old ledger for the store, dating back to 1917.  And some shopping lists for local customers.  Beautiful antique typewriters and furniture is dotted around the once busy shop, bringing you back to times past.
